Hacı Bektaş Veli Research and Application Institute

History

Hacı Bektaş Veli Research and Application Centre was officially founded with the decision of the Council of Ministers published in the Official Gazette on August 26, 2014 in accordance with the Higher Education Law Numbered 2547.

Hacı Bektaş Veli Research and Application Institute held its first meeting on December 19, 2014. In the meeting that academicians from various universities participate, “Alevism-Bektashism in Turkey” and all academic research relevant have been evaluated in detail.

Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University is the only university which has “Research Institute” about “Hacı Bektaş Veli” in Turkey. Hacı Bektaş Veli Research and Application Institute was affiliated to the Rectorate of Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University with the law numbered 2014/6728, which was published in the Official Gazette dated 26.08.2014 and numbered 29100. Our institute which has been working actively since its foundation started its education by opening master’s degree program under the name of “the Department of Alevi-Bektashi Culture” in 2018-2019 academic year. It continues its education with 2 professors, 3 associate professors, 8 assistant professors, 1 research assistant, and 18 students. Our institution brings new perspectives to the academical world by analysing historical, literary, sociological dimensions of Alevism and Bektashism in general, and in particular, it serves the public through researching Hacı Bektaş Veli’s life, works and doctrines scientifically. Activities related to Bektashi tradition and philosophy, and sufi path (tariqa) that Bektashism has created are pursued not only in Turkey, but also in different places of the world. These studies should create a new vision and they should enlighten us by Bektashism.
