COURSES AND CONTENTS
COMPULSORY (FALL SEMESTER)
HBAB 601 Research Methods
Philosophy of science, method debates in social sciences, methodology of history, scientific research methods and techniques, methods of using libraries. Scientific thesis, article and report writing methods. Form and content features that should be found in a scientific work. Science and research concepts, main features and differences of social sciences research, quantitative and qualitative research methods, scientific research steps, research models, data collection methods, data analysis, report writing, use of research results.
HBAB 603 Classical Ottoman Turkish Texts I
Writing and reading of signs related to letters, types of writing, words with the same spelling, words with similar spelling and pronunciation.
Meters of Arabic words, ismi fâil and ismi mef’ûl, aksâmi seb’a, sifati müsebbehe, mübâlaga sigalari, ismi tafdil, ismi mekân, ism’i zamân ism’i âlet, ismi tasgir, ismi mensûp, Arabic pronouns, infinitives, kemiyyet and keyfiyyet in Arabic words, izâfet in Arabic, sifat terkibi, prepositions, compound signs.
ELECTIVE (FALL SEMESTER)
HBAB 605 Ottoman Turkish Transcripts (Ottoman Archive Transcripts)
The types of documents written in Ottoman handwriting used as a primary source in Alevi Bektashi studies will be introduced. General information will be given about Ottoman handwriting types such as Sülüs, Nesih, Ta'lik, Divani, Siyakat and Rika. The types of Ottoman documents written in Rik'a handwriting, which were widely used in bureaucratic correspondence in the last period of the Ottoman Empire and the first years of the Republic, will be examined. Reading and evaluation will be made on selected sample document types. While examining the types of Ottoman documents, information about the Prime Ministry Ottoman Archive and Republic Archive funds that will be used to access these documents will be given and how to benefit from these funds will be explained.
HBAB 607 Ottoman Diplomatica and Paleography
Ottoman archive documents are read; In addition, diplomatic features, content and source values of the documents are examined.
HBAB 609 Source Analysis in Alevism-Bektashism Studies
The information needs of researchers in the field of Alevism-Bektashism and their characteristics of information use constitute the subject of this course. The hypothesis of the research, information centers, information sources, channels and technologies, the researcher's information search and usage characteristics are some of the general topics covered in this course.
HBAB 611 Libraries of Manuscripts and Rare Books and Consulting Sources for Rare Books
The aim of this course is to teach students about rare books and rare book librarianship. Within the scope of the course, Turkish-Islamic manuscripts, first editions, works that has become rare for various reasons and their physical and artistic features are examined, by comparing western manuscripts with Turkish-Islamic manuscripts, problems related to the management of rare books (such as conservation, storage, restoration, etc.) and possible technological solutions are discussed.
HBAB 613 Historical Sources of Alevism- Bektashism
Identifying and examining genres such as salname and seyahatname, which are considered as historical documents as well as the basic written sources of Alevism-Bektashism, such as Buyruk, şecere, and the icazetname.
HBAB 615 Alevism-Bektashism Studies
Works with sociological content on the hierarchical structure of the hearths, historical social foundations and modern organization styles of the hearths, rural and urban life, individual and group identities will be examined within the Alevism-Bektashism studies until today.

The seminars that students will prepare on topics related to their specialization areas will be discussed and evaluated in preparation for their thesis.
HBAB 604 Classical Ottoman Turkish Texts II
Persian nouns and noun phrases, relativity types, adjective clauses, and word construction. Persian infinitives, verb stems, ismi fâil and ismi mef’ûl, aksâmi seb’a, sifati müsebbehe, mübâlaga sigalari, compound words, compound adjectives, prepositions. Sound changes and verb conjugations in Persian words. Studies on printed and manuscript texts.

HBAB 606 Information Centers and Research Libraries Abroad
In addition to the aims, functions and various services offered by university libraries and national and private libraries which are included in the concept of research library, it is aimed to interpret and evaluate the national problems of these libraries in the light of international standards and approaches. Organization and management of academic libraries and research libraries; the role of these libraries in research and their relationship with curricula, students, faculty and administration; academic libraries as spaces in the digital age; digital information services are some of the other topics covered in this course.

Grammar differences of Azerbaijani Turkish: Examining phonetic, syntactic, morphological, and semantic properties. Evaluating the Chagatai effect of the Qizilbash period. Comprehending the periodic spelling features (Eastern Turkish Orthography). Consolidating language and culture features with Qizilbash literature and sample text readings in Azerbaijani Turkish.
HBAB 614 Historical Development of Alevi- Qizilbash Movement
Identifying and analyzing concepts and historical layers of general Shiism, İsmailiyye and Caferilik (Ismailiyya and Jafarite), Arab Alevism, Hurufism, Bektashism, Safavid Sect and Qizilbash Movement, Ehl-i Hak / Gôranlık (Ahl-i Hak / Gôranism), Yarsanlık (Yarsanism), Turkish Alevism with its general lines (Qizilbash), Genalogy of Qizilbash concept: Turkish Shamanism, Mecusism etc.
HBAB 616 Concepts in Alevism and Bektashism
Learning the concepts of hearth, dede and cem ritual, which form the basis of the Alevi Bektashi belief world, determining and analyzing the concepts such as taliplik and musahiplik that constitute the infrastructure elements of these concepts.
